The Art of the Line takes a fresh look at a classic device. While the line, as an artistic tool, is widely associated with drawing, the show explores what happens when lines take the lead in paintings and sculpture: defining planes, piercing space, and uniting forms.
Organized by James C. Varnum and Nancy DuVergne Smith, co-presidents of the Newton Art Association, and featuring thirteen area artists: Diana Bailey, Hilary Hanson Bruel, Mark Chadbourne, Cécile Ganne, Jeanne Gugino, Mary Hughes, Memy Ish Shalom, Katherine Downey Miller, Mark Sirdevan, Shannon Slattery, Nancy DuVergne Smith, Mia Rosenblatt Tinkjian, and James Varnum.
